EXPERTISE

BRNSFT builds tools for people who work with their attention.

We're a small independent studio based in Finland. We make software for macOS and iPhone, and we consult on AI and R&D operations for European companies. Everything we ship is grounded in one idea: attention is the scarce resource, and most tools ignore that.

Why we started

BRNSFT started in 2020 because we kept running into the same problem in our own work: modern software optimizes for tasks, not for context. You get task managers, window managers, calendars, notification systems — and none of them know what you're actually working on in the way a human collaborator would.

We wanted to build the missing layer. That work turned into Ikuna, a macOS app that treats context as a first-class thing — apps, browser tabs, window layout, focus settings, all bundled into named contexts you can swap between in under three seconds. Ikuna is our flagship product and where most of our engineering effort goes.

Alongside Ikuna, we run BRNSFT Capital, our consulting arm, which helps European companies structure and execute AI-adjacent R&D funding, primarily through Business Finland, and provides fractional AI-operator work for founders who want to build AI into their product without hiring a full internal team.

The two sides of the studio feed each other: the applied AI work informs how we build Ikuna, and the discipline of shipping a real product to real users grounds our consulting practice in what actually ships versus what doesn't.

What we make

Ikuna

Focus intelligence and context manager for macOS. Save and restore complete project environments (apps, tabs, window layouts, Focus Shield settings) in under three seconds; see how you actually focus through the Ikuna dashboard. Free plan up to four contexts; Pro at €9/month or €6/month yearly. Available at ikuna.app with a free download at brnsft.com/ikuna.

Ikuna Trigger

The iPhone companion to Ikuna, keeping focus state continuous between Mac and mobile. Currently in beta; public in Q3 2026. Included in the Ikuna platform subscription, not a separate license. More at brnsft.com/ikuna-trigger.

Burnout Calculator

A free well-being assessment tool for knowledge workers.

This is a research-informed burnout self-check aligned with the World Health Organization definition of burnout as an occupational phenomenon, focusing on exhaustion, mental distance or cynicism, and reduced professional efficacy.

BRNSFT Capital

Our AI and R&D operations consultancy. We help European companies (mostly Finnish and Nordic) navigate Business Finland R&D funding and act as fractional AI operators within product teams.

Our blog

A working notebook on Mac productivity, cognitive science of attention, and how the tooling landscape is (and isn't) evolving. Named research over hot takes; original testing over listicles.

Cognitive science first.

Every product decision in Ikuna is anchored to attention research, Gloria Mark (UC Irvine) on interruption cost, Sophie Leroy on attention residue, Gabriel Radvansky on the doorway effect, Roy Baumeister on decision fatigue. We cite this work in the app, on the blog, and in our approach.

Small on purpose.

We're deliberately small. No VC, no growth-at-all-costs mandate, no anonymous support inbox. When you email us, you get one of the people who builds the thing.

We show our work.

The blog is where we publish real testing, real benchmarks, real research reads. If we say we tested twelve window managers, we tested twelve window managers.
